“Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we cannot see.” – Hebrews 11:1
Having just celebrated Resurrection Sunday, I find myself imagining what it was like for the disciples to walk and talk with the resurrected Christ before He ascended into heaven and disappeared into the clouds. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus will come back in the same way He left (Acts 1:9-11).
This Scripture passage gives us a beautiful description of what that day will look like:
“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).
The encouragement in these words fills my soul with hope for tomorrow as I am reminded that my future is secure! As a believer in Christ, I know how this life ends – I will be with the Lord forever! Nothing in this life, or in death, will separate me from the love of God that is found in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:31-39). This hope rises within me when I think of the moment I will be reunited with the cloud of witnesses that have gone before me – those written of in the Book of Hebrew, Chapter 11, as well as, those loved ones that fought the good fight, finished the race and are in the Presence of our Lord. I have an eternal family awaiting my arrival in heaven!
These Truths have changed my view of death. My grief is not without hope, because there is life beyond the grave (1 Thessalonians 4:13-15). Though the disciples grieved for the death of Jesus, as Jesus had promised, their grief was turned to joy when they were reunited with their risen Savior (John 16:16-22). We too, have this hope!
Are you looking forward to that glorious day? Do you have hope for tomorrow – you know that your future is secure? This hope is real; we can “be sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we cannot see.” – this is Faith!
“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have (eternal) life in his name” (John 20:31)
