Purpose for Today!

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us… Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” – Read all of 2 Corinthians 4:7-18

Because Jesus lives, I have Purpose for Today! Ephesians 2:10 says that I am God’s Masterpiece, created for good works that He planned for me to do. While He has a universal work to be carried out by the followers of Christ, He has plans for you and me personally, things for us to do, that He will equip and empower us for as we walk with Him.

This work He has for us to do will bear fruit; that is, it will produce a lasting effect on this world. Not because we are great, but because HE IS GREAT, and He will give us an eternal return for our labor of love – lives will be changed, prayers will be answered, God’s grace and glory will be spread throughout the world. Sounds good, right? Not easy though! We die to our own desires and live for His; in this miraculous process, we are changed as His desires become our desires and fill us with joy. It is a glorious work, but work is not without pain, toil or hardships.

Yes, we are also called to suffer! But as our work is not in vain, our suffering is not in vain. Our suffering will produce perseverance, character and hope in our own lives as we are strengthened in our weakest moments. As His glory is seen through our weakness, loved ones will give thanks to God as they witness His power and receive that same life, strength and hope that is found in Jesus.

I would prefer not to suffer, and when faced with the possibility, you will find me on my knees asking for this cup to pass. But I know, that if it is the Lord’s will that I face a fiery trial, my God will be with me! He will sustain me and fill me with the confidence that my momentary suffering will not compare to the glory that’s coming. He is faithful to work His eternal glory, so even my suffering will have purpose!

Let’s do it ladies! Let’s believe it and live it out! Let the hope for tomorrow rise in your soul from the well that won’t run dry; we will not be disappointed! And for today, let’s live like we have purpose, looking to Him to renew us daily and fill us with anticipation for a better tomorrow. This is how we persevere! Trust Him and cling to His Word, because “no eye has seen, and no ear has heard, what God has for those who love Him.”

“Spring up oh well, in my soul, and let the flood go
Open the gates, every heart, and let the river flow
‘Til we can see, ‘Til we believe
That You are everything! All that we need!”
