When you have the opportunity to sit and observe a body of water, it is relaxing and incredibly beautiful. But what enhances the beauty of the water is when the sun reflects upon it and the water begins to glisten and flicker with light.
This is how your life is with Jesus. Although you may have shortcomings and flaws, know in your heart that He molded you with love and perfection. From His point of view, you are beautiful. What enhances this beauty is when the “Son” shines through you to others. The glistening flickers of Jesus’ light in you can bring peace to others.
Read slowly the following passages and ponder how Jesus’ light enhances your life in a personal way:
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 Thessalonians 5:5-6
You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
As you enter a new year, may your light shine brighter for Jesus. May it be a glaring testimony of His goodness to all who will come to know Him through you.
