Embracing Every Season

God, who is the Master-Creator, established seasons. The seasons of winter, spring, summer, and autumn are each distinct from one another, each having its challenges and joys, and each consistently and repeatedly flowing one into the other in an ever-faithful cycle.

Life also is a journey filled with different seasons, each presenting its own set of challenges and joys. When navigating through the various seasons of life, there can be both exhilarating highs and demanding lows. The difference with life is that the seasons, when viewed by age, do not repeat an orderly cycle year after year. In life, once one season is over, you move on to the next never to repeat the previous season again. For example, once you reach your 40’s, you cannot return to your 20’s.

Then there are spiritual seasons you experience. Winter can be a time of quiet rest and contemplation. Spring can be a time when fresh new things are taking place in your life. Summer can be a time when your faith is under hot attack, when you struggle against stress, anxiety, and giving up. Autumn can be an in-between time, when you are in the midst of leaving one thing to enter another, but you are not there yet. The difference with spiritual seasons is they do not repeat an orderly cycle year after year as climate seasons do. Neither do you move on to the next season never to repeat the previous season as with seasons of age. With spiritual seasons, you can cycle in and out of them in the same day. There is no restricted order or predetermined length for these seasons. Only God in His divine sovereignty knows what season you need to experience at any moment.

Although God is the Master-Creator who established these various seasons, it is our embracing each season that will propel us forward in our faith walk or render us stagnant or noneffective for His kingdom. So, our response of embracing is key!

Spring is soon to give way to summer. How have you embraced this spring season? Are you gladly anticipating the summer season or dreading it? Are you embracing your present age with its challenges and joys or depressed by it? What spiritual season are you in presently? Have you kept Jesus at the center of everything that He may keep you anchored to Himself?

With all these various seasons taking place at one time in our lives, how are we to embrace them simultaneously? Here are a few suggestions:

1. Isaiah 26:3 states, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” You must look to Jesus for constant wisdom and guidance. Trust that all He is allowing in these seasons are for your good. Wisdom and guidance come primarily through not just reading but obeying His Word in every area of your life. It comes by talking to Him (praying) about everything too. You cannot trust someone you do not know. You come to know Him more and more through His written Word and your conversations with Him.

2. When you feel paralyzed by fear, shame, guilt, anxiety, or whatever, know that you are allowing your thoughts and perception to be shaped by Satan’s lies and not God’s truth. You must lift up the shield of faith to quench all the fiery darts (lies) of Satan. Ephesians 6:16 states, “…above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” Faith is having a conviction and confident trust that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do. It is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see (Heb. 11:1). The world, your own flesh, and the devil are all working to snatch God’s truth from your heart. To embrace any season in your life, it is important to embrace and hold onto God’s Word as absolute truth. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). Embracing is knowing His Word and then by faith using it to defeat anything that comes up against the principles taught in it (shield of faith / 2 Cor. 10:4-6). Protect your heart and mind from anything that presents itself as truth but does not align with the Word of God.

3. Try to surround yourself with others who are truly embracing the seasons of their lives. Glean “godly” wisdom and understanding from them.

4. Maybe this summer read my book or take the course on “A Woman of All Seasons.” It will help you with an internal perspective of embracing the seasons of your life, especially spiritually.

No matter the seasons that are upon you momentarily, God is the Blessed Controller of all things. He is faithful and trustworthy whether you are having a mountaintop or valley experience. Ask for His help in applying these suggestions and see what He will do. You are one prayer away from embracing your seasons with a thankful heart.
