Give Him All Your Crumbs

You hear that at this point in the year many New Year’s resolutions are crumbling under the pressure of distractions or more serious obligations. This may or may not be true of you. Some people set big aspirations or numerous ones that may shortly lead to feelings of defeat.

I wanted to take a few minutes to encourage you with your desires and goals for this year or even for this one day. After all, Jesus encouraged us to take one day at a time (Matthew 6:34). There is much wisdom in this. For even in creating night and day, do you think He was encouraging us to handle small chunks at a time? Crumbs are considered a very small fragment or amount of something larger. If your dreams, hopes, goals, or efforts have collapsed into crumbs, do not give up.

I would like to encourage you to take whatever crumbs you have and offer them up to Jesus who is able to make a feast out of them. In John 6:9 it says, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” Yet, God was able to use what the little the boy had to bless the multitude of people who were there. So, will God not take the little you have and make much with it as well? Why not stop right now and ask Him, as your Precious Father, to receive the crumbs you have to offer, believing He will indeed make a feast out of them.

Am I encouraging you not to give God your best? Absolutely not! He deserves nothing but the best from us. However, He knows our limitations and when we have bitten off too much in pride. When we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, He will exalt us in due time (1 Peter 5:6-7).

Let Other Scripture Give Further Encouragement:

Use what you already have:

Exodus 4:2 – “The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.”

Be faithful with little to be entrusted with much:

Luke 16:10 – “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

Do not despise your crumbs:

Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…”

You may seem insignificant to the size of your task, but you are not:

James 3:4 – Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder …”

Even small faith achieves much:

Luke 17:6 – And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

The little you have can slay giants:

1 Samuel 17:40 – Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.

Dear one, go on this day and this year keeping your focus on Jesus. In doing so, you will accomplish much with whatever crumbs you have. It will not be by your own power, but by the power of His Holy Spirit in you. Zechariah 4:6 states, “Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”

Finally, remember to give Him thanks for every crumb that is turned into a feast. Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” To that I say, “Amen and Amen!”
