Faithful in Little Things
(Part One)

In my last blog, I talked about a crisis of belief because there are moments in one’s life when our faith is not as strong as we would like to believe. So, in this blog I would like to discuss that being faithful in the little things is important.

Being faithful in little things means consistently obeying God in everything we do: our everyday actions, responsibilities, decisions, attitudes, even if they seem small or unimportant.

In a world that celebrates fame, fortune, money, power, influence, and instant success, it can be easy to overlook the importance of small acts of obedience to our Creator. Yet, throughout Scripture, God repeatedly emphasizes faithfulness in what is little, unseen, or insignificant. Heaven’s perspective is often vastly different from the world’s perspective.

Jesus stated in Luke 16:10, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” This powerful truth reveals a kingdom principle that applies to every believer. God watches how we manage the little things because they often prepare us for greater assignments, deeper intimacy with Him, and stronger spiritual character.

Many people pray for greater opportunities, larger platforms, or increased influence while overlooking the simple acts of obedience right in front of them. Yet greater opportunities and spiritual maturity is rarely formed in dramatic moments. It happens through daily consistency, humble service, prayer, integrity, and trust in God.

Whether you are caring for your family, serving in ministry, studying God’s Word, encouraging others, or persevering through difficult circumstances, your faithfulness matters deeply to God. Spiritual transformation rarely happens overnight. Instead, it happens through consistent surrender and faithful obedience one step at a time and one day at a time. When I say consistent steps, this happens day after day without hesitation. In Zechariah 4:10, Scripture says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” God values small beginnings. He values perseverance. He values consistency.

We were in Italy for almost a month. We remained faithful and consistent each day in what may seem little to pray daily and to have our devotions before any sightseeing. Our personal time with God enhanced our observation of the amazing sites we saw and in recognizing God’s sovereignty shown throughout history.

Throughout the Bible, God frequently chose ordinary people with small beginnings to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

• David faithfully cared for sheep before becoming king.
• Joseph served faithfully in prison before entering the palace.
• Ruth faithfully gleaned in fields before becoming part of the lineage of Jesus.
• The disciples faithfully followed Jesus before being entrusted with spreading the Gospel throughout the world.
• I served as a Sunday school teacher before being a youth minister.

None of these journeys began with public recognition. They began with faithful obedience.

Sometimes, we desire the outcome without embracing the process God uses to prepare us. Yet preparation is essential. The hidden seasons often shape our hearts in character more than the visible seasons.

Sometimes people become discouraged because they compare their lives to others. Social media and modern culture often create pressure to achieve more, do more, and become more visible. However, God is not asking you to compare your assignment with someone else’s assignment. He is asking you to be faithful with what He has entrusted to you because you were designed for your assignments.

• Every prayer whispered in faith matters.
• Every sacrifice made in love matters.
• Every moment spent studying Scripture matters.
• Every act of forgiveness matters.
• Every encouraging word matters.
• Nothing done unto the Lord is wasted.

Faithfulness Develops Spiritual Character

One reason God values faithfulness in little things is because it develops spiritual character. Character is not formed merely through knowledge. It is shaped through obedience, testing, endurance, humility, and surrender. Small daily choices gradually form the direction and strength of our spiritual lives.

For example:

• Choosing to pray even when you do not know how God will answer.
• Choosing forgiveness over bitterness builds Christlike character.
• Choosing honesty when dishonesty would be easier builds integrity.
• Choosing to trust God during uncertainty strengthens faith.

These moments may appear small individually, but over time they shape who we become. They build Christlike character in us.

Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Faithfulness requires perseverance. There will be moments when you do not immediately see results. There may be seasons where obedience feels difficult or lonely. Yet God often does His deepest work in hidden places. A tree develops strong roots underground before visible growth appears above the surface. Likewise, God often develops deep spiritual roots within us before fruit becomes visible. At times, believers become discouraged because they feel spiritually stagnant. However, growth is not always dramatic. Sometimes growth is simply continuing to trust God day after day.

You may not realize how much stronger your faith has become until a difficult season arises and you discover that you are responding differently than before. That growth often comes from countless small moments of faithfulness. So, stay faithful in the little things, God sees you and He will not forget you.
