As America celebrates its 250th year, we have an opportunity to reflect not only on our nation’s history but also on our personal walk with God. Anniversaries remind us where we have come from, but they should also challenge us to consider where we are headed.
When I think about the birth of our nation, I remember the courage and conviction of many of our founding fathers and the men and women of faith who believed that God was leading them to establish a place where they could worship Him freely. They were not simply hearers of truth—they were doers. They acted upon what they believed, often at great personal cost. Their faith compelled them to take action.
As a child, I celebrated Independence Day with parades, decorated bicycles, family barbecues, and fireworks. Those memories are precious, but I did not know Jesus Christ then. Today, in this season of my life, the celebration carries a much deeper meaning. I desire to be intentional—to be a doer of God’s Word—demonstrating to those around me that God is my source, my strength, and the One who has faithfully sustained me and this nation throughout its history. To be a “hearer and doer of God’s Word” means living out the Bible’s teachings rather than just listening to them.
If we truly desire America to be great, it will not come through political power or human achievement alone. It will come by the grace of God as we humble ourselves before Him and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us. Greatness begins when we love God wholeheartedly and love our neighbors as ourselves.
Faith That Is Lived, Not Just Learned
Many believers sincerely desire to follow Jesus Christ but often ask, “How do I live out my faith every day?” Attending church, reading devotionals, and listening to Christian teaching are all valuable, but our faith was never intended to remain inside church walls. Genuine faith influences our thoughts, attitudes, conversations, decisions, and actions every single day. The Christian life is not something we practice only on Sundays. It is a daily journey of knowing Christ, trusting His promises, and applying His truth to every circumstance we face.
James 1:22 gives us this powerful instruction:
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
God never intended for His Word to simply inform us. He intends for it to transform us. Faith becomes visible when biblical truth moves from our minds into our daily lives.
Scripture also reminds us in Romans 10:17:
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Strong faith does not happen by accident. It grows as we consistently spend time in God’s presence through His Word and through prayer. Every day we choose to seek Him, our confidence in His promises grows stronger.
Throughout Scripture and throughout history, prayer has changed lives, altered nations, opened prison doors, healed broken hearts, and brought revival. The God who answered prayer in the Bible still hears the prayers of His people today.
As we commemorate 250 years as a nation, perhaps the greatest celebration would not simply be fireworks lighting the night sky, but hearts being rekindled with a passion for God. Our nation does not merely need more information—it needs transformation. It needs believers who pray with sincere hearts, who seek God’s face, and who live what they profess.
Guard Against Spiritual Drift
The truth is, no one accidentally drifts closer to God. Drifting is always away from Him. Life becomes busier. The noise grows louder. Prayer becomes occasional. Church attendance becomes optional. Conviction grows quieter. Before long, anxiety replaces peace, and spiritual dryness replaces intimacy with God.
Many of us have become experts at managing our schedules but strangers to God’s presence. We have apps that increase productivity, calendars that organize every hour, and devices that monitor our sleep and exercise. Yet many believers have no consistent rhythm of prayer, no daily time in God’s Word, no quiet place where they simply sit in His presence. We have learned to optimize our time while neglecting our souls.
Our greatest need today is not another program but a renewed relationship with our Savior. One of the greatest battles Christians face is not external—it is internal. Every day we are surrounded by distractions, competing voices, and worldly pressures that attempt to pull our hearts away from God’s truth. More than ever, we need spiritual discipline and complete dependence upon the Lord.
God has already given us the answer. Second Chronicles 7:14 declares:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Notice that God’s promise begins with His people. Revival starts in the hearts of believers who are willing to humble themselves, repent, pray, and obey.
A Call to Be Doers of the Word
As America celebrates 250 years, may we choose to be more than hearers. May we become doers of God’s Word. Let our faith be demonstrated through our love, our obedience, our compassion, our integrity, and our commitment to Christ.
God has never failed to keep a single one of His promises. If He has spoken it, He will accomplish it. He remains our Source, our Hope, and our Firm Foundation.
The future of our nation will not be shaped merely by what we celebrate but by what we practice. May this anniversary remind us that true freedom is found in Jesus Christ, and may we commit ourselves afresh to living out our faith every day.
Let us be people who do not simply hear God’s Word—but who faithfully live it.
