Have you ever watched someone else receive the very thing you have been praying for? Maybe someone you know got married while you are still waiting for your husband. Perhaps a friend received the promotion you wanted, bought the home you have been praying for, experienced financial breakthrough, or received an answer to a prayer that you have been bringing before God for years.
You are happy for them. At least you want to be happy for them. But if you are honest, somewhere deep inside you may be asking, “Lord, when is it going to be my turn?” Waiting on God can be difficult, especially when you are watching others get blessed. It can make you question your faith, your prayers, and even whether God has forgotten about you. But the truth is this: someone else receiving their blessing does not mean God has forgotten yours. God has a plan for your life, and His timing is always worth trusting.
I believe in the power of prayer and intercede for others through this ministry, at church on the prayer team, daily with my husband on behalf of others, and in various other situations. Having prayed a multitude of prayers for an enormous amount of people through the years, I have witnessed how some receive answers quickly while some have to wait upon the Lord. I personally know what it is to wait in faith upon the Lord. Sometimes I waited peacefully and other times I had to fight anxiety and fear while waiting. God is not on our timetable, nor are His ways our ways (Isaiah 55:8–9). So how do you wait on your blessing while watching others get blessed?
Someone Else’s Blessing Is Not Your Rejection
One of the greatest dangers during a waiting season is comparison. We look at what God is doing for someone else and begin measuring our lives against theirs. Social media can make this even more difficult because we can be constantly exposed to other people’s celebrations, accomplishments, relationships, vacations, families, businesses, and breakthroughs. We see their harvest, but we don’t see their entire journey.
We don’t know what they had to endure before the blessing arrived. We don’t know how long they prayed, what they sacrificed, or what God was developing in them while they waited. Most importantly, their blessing was never designed to be the measurement of your life. God did not give you their assignment. He gave you yours.
The Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:4 to examine our own work rather than comparing ourselves with someone else. Comparison can steal the joy God wants you to have in your own journey. Instead of asking, “Why did God bless her and not me?” begin asking, “Lord, what are You doing in me while I wait?” That question can change everything.
Waiting Does Not Mean God Is Doing Nothing
Sometimes we assume that if we don’t see anything happening, God must not be working. But waiting and inactivity are not the same thing. There may be things happening behind the scenes that you cannot see.
Think about a seed planted in the ground. For a period of time, nothing appears to be happening. You don’t see roots developing beneath the soil. You don’t see the growth taking place. But that does not mean the seed is dead. There is activity beneath the surface. Your waiting season can be like that. God may be preparing you for what you have asked Him to give you. He may be developing your character, strengthening your faith, changing your perspective, closing doors that would have harmed you, or preparing circumstances that you cannot yet see. Sometimes God is not simply preparing the blessing. He is preparing you for the blessing. That is an important distinction.
Keep Your Faith While You Wait
Waiting requires faith because faith often has to believe before it sees. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. That means your faith cannot be based solely on what is happening around you. If you only believe God is good when everything is going your way, your faith will constantly rise and fall with your circumstances. But when you know God’s character, you can trust Him even when you don’t understand His timing. When you are waiting, you need God’s Word in your heart more than ever.
Be Careful What You Say While You Wait
Waiting can affect our words. We may begin saying things like:
-
“Nothing ever works out for me.”
“God must not care about me.”
“Everybody else is moving forward except me.”
“I guess my blessing isn’t coming.”
Be careful. Your waiting season is not the time to speak against the very faith you are trying to build. This does not mean pretending you are never disappointed. God already knows how you feel. You can honestly bring your hurt, questions, and frustrations to Him. But don’t allow temporary disappointment to become permanent unbelief. There is a difference between saying, “Lord, I am hurting because I don’t understand,” and saying, “Lord, You are not going to do anything for me.” Bring your honest feelings to God, but leave them in His hands.
Stop Watching the Clock and Start Watching God
Sometimes we become so focused on when our blessing will come that we miss what God is doing today. We tell ourselves:
-
“When I get married, then I’ll be happy.”
“When I get the promotion, then I’ll have peace.”
“When my finances change, then I’ll enjoy life.”
“When God answers this prayer, then I’ll really trust Him.”
But God wants you to experience His presence while you wait, not only after you receive what you have requested. Your life is happening right now. This day matters. This season matters. There are lessons God wants you to learn today that may be necessary for tomorrow. Don’t put your entire life on hold waiting for one particular blessing. Enjoy the people God has placed around you. Serve. Learn. Pray. Grow. Laugh. Worship. Love. Give. Encourage someone else. Live the life God has given you today while trusting Him with tomorrow.
These are just a few pointers on how you can wait on your blessing while watching others get blessed. We will continue this topic in next Friday’s blog. May our precious Lord give you the faith that what you see as good is from Him, and what you see as bad, He will use for your good. I am praying that even now you may see at least one area in your life where you are blessed of God. Until next Friday.
